Exam Weather

Luckily, the degree i have chosen to do does not end each academic year with headache inducing exams. This is brilliant news. Firstly, because i am horrible at exams. I have no talent for storing useless information, equations, quotations and so on, only to regurgitate them, then inevitably forget them. Secondly, if i had exams to revise for, i wouldn't have been able to enjoy the stunning weather we've had over the weekend. Every year without fail, for as long as i can remember, there has been a few days of glorious sunshine and warmth, that arrive just as you should be locking yourself away to bury your head in a textbook. Exam weather has become infamous.

Having said that, i can't quite throw caution to the wind and dig out the string vest just yet. The term has just ended but this Easter holiday is going to be spent mostly whipping my portfolio into shape for the end of year hand in on the 12th of May, and getting on with the last brief of the year (more on that to follow soon). I just hope there might be a few sunny afternoons that coincide with portfolio work breaks.

A New Month

I always forget how quickly February seems to pass. Do you still get that little flicker of excitement that you'd get at school, when you write the date and it's a new number for the month? I do a bit. The third month of the year has started well, yesterday was a beautiful day. I walked to the shops at about half four, and the sun was very much still up and shining, and it was warm enough not to need a coat. Quite a big contrast to Berlin. It was that lovely sort of temperature that makes you want to swing your arms back and forth whilst you walk, although not on a crowded pavement i hasten to add. I don't want to jump the gun here, but spring seems to be tentatively poking it's head round the corner. I saw shoots of unopened daffodils and crocuses on the grassy boarders, and it brightened my already fairly good day. 

Roll on spring!

Glasgow Snow

Quick visit up to Glasgow for a few days with Fran. On Tuesday morning we went for a frosty walk round Kelvingrove Park, which is 5 minutes from her flat. It was so pretty under a blanket of snow, although extremely chilly. It was nice when the sun came through the trees and warmed your legs a bit. Love love love Glasgow.

Welcome Winter

Just as November's comings to an end, the snow has started falling, paving the way for what looks to be a rather chilly December. Naturally the country has ground to a halt and it is the only thing people can seem to talk about. Whilst trying to remain positive about the large dump of cold outside my front door, i came across this photo taken on Christmas day last year. It was the most perfect day for a brisk walk in the countryside, working up an appetite for the monstrous amount of food that was to follow. I hope this year's Christmas day weather is similar, i would love to do that again. Welcome winter.

9 to 5 Part 4

I had a 'Part 4' all ready to post, but in my early morning bleary eyed state, i deleted it rather than posting it (the buttons are right next to each other). To be honest i wasn't that thrilled with it so i shall see this slight mishap as an oportunity. Today it did a rain, a big rain. It took two hours to do the usual 30 minute drive home after work. Roads are flooded, rivers have burst their banks, and it's generally a bit unpleasent. We had thunder, lightening, hailstones and scorching sun all in one afternoon, it was fairly biblical/ridiculous. Whilst rain and grey was all i could see out of the window, i thought i'd try and find some slightly more attractive images of it.

Embrace this disgusting, soggy weather, and have a splash about in your wellies.

A Summer Garden

On my visit down south, i spent a hot sunny morning catching up with my Grandparents' old neighbours. We drank strong coffee and ate chocolate chip shortbread biscuits in the back garden. There's a different pace of life altogether there, which was difficult not to get caught up in. You feel a day has been actively well spent if the only thing you've done is water the plants, or if you completed the crossword that was faxed over daily from a neighbour at 6pm sharp. It is nice to let yourself exist in this sort of way for a while, you find you take pleasure in things you wouldn't normally stop to notice, like this garden for instance...

The Art of the Barbecue

It has been announced that we are to gain possession of a barbecue, just in time for the summer months. After frequent pestering from my younger Brother, my Dad has decided to commandeer his parents' fairly major grilling machine. I must say I am looking forward to (weather permitting) musky evenings sat outside, wrapped up, candles lit and the smell of marinated meat, fish and vegetables wafting through the air. This time last year we were fairly lucky with the weather so spent a lot of our spare time BBQ-ing cheap things (food mostly) on a disposable unit in the park. This year I’m quite looking forward to trying out homemade marinades on thick steaks and fillets of fish. Probably my all time favourite charred dish is a barbecued banana served with a sprinkling of sugar and a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream and raspberry coulis. I have my Granddad to thank for introducing me to this wonderful concoction, and it will most likely be the christening meal when the appliance arrives. April Showers

The weather has been particularly uninspiring this week so i am going to purchase a cheery umbrella to lighten the mood. Haven't picked a favourite yet...

A Sunny Friday

 

 

 After being kept awake for most of the night by the constant rain (i have a skylight in my bedroom, therefore rain is extra loud) i woke up this morning to an unfamiliar sight. It was blue skies and sun, and there was a lovely crisp breeze. Today was the first day of the year i have left the flat without a coat or scarf. Everyone at uni was in a good mood, and it was so nice to get down to some work with the sun coming through the big glass windows. When i got home the light was starting to fade and it was getting a lot colder but i didn't want to waste the opportunity for a sunny stroll round the park opposite my flat so i picked up the camera and headed straight down. I've posted some of the pictures of the lake in the middle of Platt Fields and a friendly goose. More days like this please :]
